The cumulative effort which went into Zurg is split into a number of different posts here; but I wanted to compile all the photos which were taken from beginning to end (significanly less towards the end, as I struggled for time) to show the evolution of the costume. It invariably starts with a piece of wire, and a simple shape.
The Head:
The Ion Blaster:
The Cape:
(range-dog included for scale!)
The body:
Lower body, which was cut from the same type of material as the cape, was composed of two separate triangular shapes which were stitched together to give me more leg room - walking is one of those utilities that I was convinced couldn't be sacrificed in the name of the costume!
That's about it as far as photos go. The only things I don't have evidence of are the gauntlets (simply shaped using pizza/cereal box cardboard and painted red and silver) and the midriff (which took time to figure out, but was eventually composed of wrapped up newspaper with material stitched over it, forming tubes which were placed one on top of another).
It's been a blast.
rocks! :) from popcorn!
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm creating a Zurg costume for my husband to wear at my four-year-old's birthday party and I would love to see how you put it all together but the pictures are all blank? Either way, sounds like you did an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteHey Kristine, thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteSorry about that, I accidentally deleted the folder where the images were hosted and only today realised what I'd done!
Good luck with the costume if you haven't done it already!
No worries - I muddled through it and it came out pretty well since we had a great start - thanks to you! The kids loved it.
ReplyDeleteEpicness much? Could never find a idea for the bottom body. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I went through many ideas for the bottom of the body myself - I just couldn't find a way to make a solid piece. So glad I went for this option, though - the flexibility was great. Never would have gotten up stairs in a solid piece!
